Parents

Parents,

WDIV, Channel Four previewed a segment that might be worth watching.  On Monday, September 19 during its 11:00 pm broadcast, WDIV will air a segment that reveals deceptive ways students are using alcohol during the school day.  Being aware of current trends with drug and alcohol use is important.  The devil will use any possible way to make drug and alcohol use look appealing and fun.

Here is a link that promotes Monday night's segment.

Check this segment out so we can all stay informed and continue encouraging our children and students about living a drug/alcohol-free life.

During our first Example activity on September 18, there were 100 students who had a lot of fun getting to know each other and learning what Example is all about.  In addition to a variety of games and pizza, the focus for the night's activity was based on Psalm 18:

I love you, LORD, my strength.
 2The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
   my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge,
   my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold...

16 He reached down from on high and took hold of me;
   he drew me out of deep waters.
17 He rescued me from my powerful enemy,
   from my foes, who were too strong for me.
18 They confronted me in the day of my disaster,
   but the LORD was my support.
19 He brought me out into a spacious place;
   he rescued me because he delighted in me...

28 You, LORD, keep my lamp burning;
   my God turns my darkness into light.
29 With your help I can advance against a troop;
   with my God I can scale a wall.

 30 As for God, his way is perfect:
   The LORD’s word is flawless
   he shields all who take refuge in him.

Despite all the temptations the devil assails us with, we know our strength comes from the hope we have as redeemed children of God through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.  At times those temptations may seem insurmountable.  However, they are not and we can advance against a culture that believes differently.  Example provides an opportunity to live in response to the grace and mercy that is ours, by avoiding drugs, alcohol and other destructive decisions.

Community of Concern is a website that provides great information concerning drugs and alcohol.

Here is just one example of the great information found on the website regarding the the scientific evidence that reveals the harmful influence of  alcohol and drugs an the adolescent brain:

Is Science on Our Side? Is there scientific evidence that alcohol, tobacco and other drugs harm the development of adolescents' brains?

YES.
Science has shown that marijuana use, especially by teenagers, interferes with learning and memory. Marijuana is many times more potent than it was 25 years ago, kids are using it at far younger ages and marijuana use leads more teenagers into drug treatment than all of the other drugs- including alcohol- combined.
