Soon we will publish video excerpts from the event. For now, however, please read the introduction and prayer that one of Example's leaders wrote and said to begin the event. It's this kind of leadership that makes leading Example such a pleasure and honor. I have been blessed to be involved with high school students who want to make a difference in the lives of so many people.
John Brandt, Example adviser
Welcome to Lutheran North High School!
My name is Jack, and I am a senior here at Lutheran North. I’m a captain of the basketball team and I play baseball as well. I’ve been involved in Example for almost 4 years now and one of the things I love about it is that it encourages us to live a God pleasing life. It gives students an opportunity to gather and participate in fun activities as an alternative to engaging in drug and alcohol use. I am thankful to have met friends at Example who share my values, so that I don’t have to worry about being in situations where alcohol or drug use is going on. Example not only strengthens us to resist drugs and alcohol, but helps us to encourage those around us who might be struggling with it. In that spirit, Example is open to all students, and I welcome and encourage anyone who has not yet attended to join us.
Please bow your heads and pray with me…..
Dear Lord,
Thank you for this day that you have given us. Thank you for bringing us all together tonight so that we might grow in knowledge and wisdom. Especially at Thanksgiving time, we thank you for friends who support us, and families who stick with us no matter what. Thank you for people like Mr. Brandt and LHN administration who continue to make such a positive impact on the lives of so many students. Lord most importantly, we thank you for sending your son to die on the cross to save us from our sins, even though we didn’t deserve your mercy. Through Jesus’ death on the cross we have the promise of salvation that we will one day be with you in Heaven. God, we ask you to help any families that are struggling with drug or alcohol abuse, and that you bless and comfort them as they go through their life. Finally Lord, we ask you to bless our speakers tonight, and let their message resonate in our hearts and minds.
In your name we pray Lord,
Amen
